Global Learning
The Global Learning Programme
The Global Learning Programme (GLP) is a formal education project designed to enhance the global learning taking place in schools throughout Northern Ireland.
The GLP enriches the learning process, connects learning and brings an exciting new dimension to existing subjects such as literacy and numeracy. It develops young people's understanding of global issues and empowers them as global citizens to take action for a fair and sustainable world.
St. Columba's began the GLP in May 2015 and we have achieved our Level 2 certificate. We are continuing to implement Global Learning across the school curriculum and through whole school initiatives using the Connecting Classrooms resources. It is our aim that Global Awareness becomes further embedded in to our school ethos.
Global Learning goes hand in hand with the UN Convention on the rights of the child.
Article 24 : Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well - being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
Article 27: Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.
Artcicle 28: Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child. Discipline in schools must respect children's dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
