World's Largest Lesson 2019

9th Jan 2025
Yr 2 enjoyed a lesson on comparing the houses that we live in, compared to houses that individuals live in, in developing countries. We connected with Miss McGrogan's daddy who is currently in Africa building houses with 'Habitat for Humanity'. Paul sent us videos and photographs of the houses in Africa and the stages of the new houses which are being built by Paul and the team. The children asked a range of questions and used wonderful comparative language when discussing the building materials, house sizes and construction machinery. During outdoor play some of the children attempted to build their own houses using bricks and then compared this to using branches/leaves ??? The children discussed which materials would be most suitable and recognised how lucky we are in our own country.
Year One looked at Global Goal No. 3 ‘Good Health and Well-Being’ for Sustainable Development. We looked at lots of photos that Miss Coyle took of children’s lives in Zambia during the summer. We watched videos of the toys they make themselves and materials that are used. We compared them with our own toys we have at home. We had a go at making our own toys using natural resources. We have fantastic imaginations!
